Happy New Year everyone! While we were only open for 3 months, 2021 was an amazing year for the ice-skating community in Grand Junction and the Western Slope as a whole. Thank you all for your incredible support, we are extremely excited for our first full year of operations and look forward to growing with all of you in 2022.
Our first holiday season was a huge success as we saw over 3,300 skaters get on the ice during our public skate sessions in December! We hosted the first annual 3v3 Celly Classic Pond Hockey tournament, and the positive feedback for this first tournament was incredible. We look forward to hosting similar events in the future. We hosted our first winter skate camps as well as the first Reindeer Rally hockey skills and skating clinic and both were a huge hit for all those that participated. Thanks to our hockey director Jackson Wilson and skating director Sydney Ash for their amazing work with their programs!
Moving into the new year we look forward to big changes happening at River City Sportplex. Our management team is in the midst of finishing design and planning for our expansions that will include a full-service bar/restaurant, outdoor activity areas that will include beach volleyball, pickle ball, and outdoor DEK hockey! These projects are expected to get started in the first half of 2022. Following the completion of these projects, renovations will begin inside the facility where we will be adding a sports performance center and indoor batting cages for baseball/softball. Projected completion of these additions is still TBD.
All of us here at River City Sportplex are excited to continue to grow our skating and hockey programs as well as adding new programs and activities such as curling and speed skating. For anyone interested in getting started with ice skating or ice hockey, we encourage you to check out our learn to skate and learn to play hockey programs, both of which are offered for individuals of all ages!
Thank you to our amazing community for your support in 2021, we can’t wait for what 2022 has in store for all of us! We hope you all have a great start to the new year, and we will see you at the rink soon!
Phil
